The Coast Beanie Knitting Pattern

My first fall beanie pattern of the year! The Coast Beanie is perfect for this time of year, it’s super cozy and comfy and the perfect fall accessory. This pattern features the seed stitch, one of my favorite textured stitches. It is very simple, using only knits and purls!
Materials
16 inch US Size 9/5.5mm circular needle
16 inch US Size 10.5/6.5mm circular needle
Tapestry needle
 
Yarn
One skein of any medium (4) weight yarn
I used Lion Brand Wool Ease (with enough yarn left over to make a yarn pom)
 
Gauge
Using smaller needles
22 sts and 25 rows per 4in
 
Sizes
Can be custom fit Adult – Toddler*
Adult – CO 63
Child – CO 54
Toddler – CO 45
*This pattern is worked in multiples of 9 (72, 63, 54, 45, 36, etc.)
 
Stitch Abbreviations
K- knit
P- purl
K2tog- knit two together
 
Make sure to check your gauge!
 
Let’s Begin
Using smaller needles
For adult size cast on 63, join in the round (make sure not to twist your stitches), place marker to indicate beginning of round or leave tail
 
*P2, K1* repeat until brim measures approximately 4 inches. Keep in mind the brim will be folded
 
Switch to larger needles
Row 1: *P1, K2, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, K1* repeat 6 times
Row 2: *P1, K2, P2, K1, P1, K1, P1* repeat 6 times
 
Continue Row 1 and 2 until desired length.
For fitted beanie- approx. 7 in from brim (try it on as you go)
For slouchy beanie- approx. 9 in from brim

Decrease
Row 1: *P1, K2, P1, K2tog, P1, K2tog* repeat 6 times
Row 2: *P1, K2, P2, K1, P1* repeat 6 times
Row 3: *P1, K2, P1, K1, P1, K1* repeat 6 times
Row 4: *P1, K2, P2, K1, P1* repeat 6 times
Row 5: *P1, K2tog, P1, K1, P1, K1* repeat 6 times
Row 6: *P1, K1, P2, K1, P1* repeat 6 times
 
Cut yarn and leave tail long enough to thread, using tapestry needle slip through remaining stitches and pull tight, weave in ends. Add your favorite pom!
